Diagnostic criteria of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology[2]

The diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis can be made if both major diagnostic criteria are fulfilled:

  1. Clinical manifestation of skin lesions which are compatible with dermatitis herpetiformis.

  2. Presence of granular immunoglobulin A deposits at the epidermal basement membrane zone at direct immunofluorescence microscopy.
