Prognosis

Scarlet fever and the scarlatiniform rash generally self-resolve within 7 days. Desquamation may continue for several weeks.[13]

Antibiotics shorten the intensity and duration of symptoms of the primary group A streptococcus (GAS) infection, reduce the risk of suppurative sequelae, and prevent short-term and long-term complications, such as rheumatic fever and invasive GAS infection.[3][13][25]
