Monitoring

Lipid levels (low-density lipoprotein [LDL]-cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein [HDL]-cholesterol, and triglycerides) should be monitored every 6 weeks until target levels are achieved and, once stable, every 6 months.

Serum aminotransferase and creatine kinase levels should be measured before initiating statins, fibrates, ezetimibe, or niacin (nicotinic acid). They should be re-checked each time the medication dose is adjusted and monitored every 6 months once the dose is stable.

Blood pressure, blood glucose, and haemoglobin A1c should be checked every 3 months. Waist circumference and body mass index should be measured every month.
