Epidemiology

The incidence of trigeminal neuralgia is between 4 and 29 cases per 100,000 person years based on US and UK population studies.[2][5][6] This means that 12,000 to 87,000 new cases are diagnosed in the US annually. There is a female predominance at all ages (3:2 female to male ratio), and rates appear to increase with age, with a mean age of onset between 53 and 57 years.[2] The lifetime prevalence of trigeminal neuralgia is estimated at 0.16% to 0.3%.[2]
