Women who do pelvic floor muscle exercises during pregnancy have a decreased risk of urinary incontinence in late pregnancy and the immediate postnatal period.[57] [ Cochrane Clinical Answers logo ] ​ The long-term benefits are not known. In one study of women aged 20 years and over, moderate physical activity, such as recreational sport, was associated with a decreased likelihood of stress, urge, and mixed incontinence.[58]
