Prognosis

Permanent damage from both traumatic and non-traumatic rhabdomyolysis is minimal. Complete recovery is the normal result following appropriate treatment.

Mortality

In one series of 87 patients, 8 died.[3] It is unclear, however, whether deaths occurred due to rhabdomyolysis alone or the underlying causes.

A survival rate of 78.6% was reported in one 14-year retrospective review of rhabdomyolysis resulting in renal failure (now termed acute kidney injury).[38][41]
