Prognosis

The reported case fatality rate varies widely from 3% to over 40%.[2][3] Globally, the estimated case fatality rate for acute infections is 11.7%, and 8% for recent infections. Higher case fatality rates have been reported in pregnant women (34%).[33] Survivors have a slow recovery; further research is required to understand the long-term complications.[60] Other than post-traumatic stress syndrome, no late complications of CCHF virus infection have been defined. Survivors may still be infectious for up to 90 days. Recurrence has not been reported.
