Epidemiology
An estimated 10% of the adult population is affected by chronic sinusitis in the UK.[2] Chronic rhinosinusitis is common, although the true prevalence is difficult to measure. In Europe, chronic rhinosinusitis prevalence is estimated to range between 6.9% and 27.1%, depending on the country, whereas in the US, it is estimated to range between 2.1% and 13.8%.[3] Chronic rhinosinusitis occurs in all ages, sexes, and ethnic groups. Loss of productivity and missed work/school are major economic factors, as a significant decrease in quality of life is observed.[3] Quality-of-life scores are worse than those of other chronic diseases such as heart failure, asthma, and COPD.[4]
