Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed case definition[68]
A confirmed case of trichinellosis requires a suggestive clinical picture of fever, myalgia, peri-orbital oedema, and eosinophilia, as well as laboratory confirmation via either identification of Trichinella species larvae in a muscle biopsy or positive antibody serology.
European Centre for Disease Control confirmed case definition[69]
A confirmed case of trichinellosis requires that the following clinical and laboratory criteria are met:
At least 3 of the following 6 clinical manifestations should be present: fever, myalgias, gastrointestinal symptoms, facial oedema, eosinophilia, and sub-conjunctival, subungual, or retinal haemorrhages.
At least 1 of the following 2 laboratory tests should be positive: Trichinella species identified on a muscle biopsy or positive serum antibodies to Trichinella species.
