Epidemiology

There are few epidemiologic data available; however, several hundred cases of tularemia are reported in the US each year. The annual incidence in the US in 2020 was 0.05 cases per 100,000 persons. It has been reported in all states (except Hawaii), but is most common in the south central US, the Pacific Northwest, and parts of Massachusetts.[13] It occurs more commonly in men, possibly due to a greater chance of exposure from landscaping or hunting. While it occurs in people of all ages, it is most common in children.[13][14]

Infection occurs predominantly in the northern hemisphere; the reason for this is unknown.
