Patient discussions

Older children and adults (or an appropriate caregiver) should understand the nature of strabismus, the different management options, and its potential adverse effects on vision, including decreased visual acuity and binocular vision.

Formulate treatment plans with the patient and/or family/caregivers and ensure that the plan is responsive to their preferences, expectations, and perceptions of the existing alignment.[2] Discussions should include the role of surgery and the need to adapt to new ocular alignment after surgery.[28]
