Reinforce good nappy-changing hygiene practices with the carer.[13]
No matter which type of nappy is used, change nappy every 2 hours or at least inspect for soiling every 2 hours.
Change nappies even more frequently in newborns and children with diarrhoea.
Eliminate irritants at each nappy change by cleansing nappy area with commercial cleansing wipes or water on cotton cloth.
Use products with minimal additives.
Avoid excess friction and detergents.
If child is prone to frequent nappy rash, empirically apply topical barrier containing zinc oxide, soft paraffin jelly, glycerin, or mineral oil.
Allow for nappy-free time whenever practical.
Avoid use of plastic underpants over nappy.
