Screening

There are no specific screening tests in general use for pregnant women who are susceptible to deliver premature neonates.

In pregnant women not in labor and at less than 34 weeks’ gestation, ultrasound screening for cervical length, cervicovaginal prolactin, and fetal fibronectin have been shown to have high positive likelihood ratios for predicting spontaneous preterm birth. In the same group of women, detection of uterine contraction by home uterine monitoring and amniotic fluid C-reactive protein had low negative likelihood ratios.[34]
