Prognosis
Complete remission is expected after treatment with folic acid and antibiotics. Response to treatment is generally prompt with symptomatic, laboratory, and pathologic improvement occurring 2 days to 1 week after the initiation of treatment.[36] Relapses in travelers returning from endemic areas who have been treated for 6 months to 1 year remain rare. Up to 50% of patients native to endemic areas will have a relapse after treatment.[37][38][39]
