Increased dilation of venous system leading to axial system reflux.
Erosion of varices can lead to bleeding that may require surgical intervention.
Increased dilation of the venous system and increased pressure may lead to venous hypertension. Treatment of the superficial axial system, if involved, will help. Perforator incompetence may also contribute to ulceration, but the benefit of treating incompetent perforating veins is less clear.[52]
