Case history
A 73-year-old man presents with redness confined to the corners of his mouth. He wears dentures. Exam reveals fissuring and crusting at the angles of the mouth, with palatal erythema. Laboratory investigations for zinc, iron, folate, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B12 are normal, and a fungal culture from the angle of the mouth shows growth of Candida albicans.
Other presentations
The more severe forms usually have multiple furrows or fissures radiating from the angle of the mouth.
