Lymphogranuloma venereum

Full recovery can be expected, especially when treatment is started early; however, reinfection or relapse may occur. When antibiotics are not started early, LGV can progress to late stages. Chronic genital edema can result in scarring, fibrosis, and permanent disfiguration, which may require surgical reconstruction. In the late stages of anogenital LGV, proctectomy, perineal excision, and permanent colostomy may also be required for stricture or fistula formation.
