Emerging treatments
Acyclovir
There is limited evidence of visible rash improvement, as rated by a medical provider, with the use of the antiviral agent acyclovir compared to placebo; however, an effective dose has not been determined, thereby limiting the ability to recommend its usage at this time.[11]
Erythromycin
There is moderate-quality evidence from one small randomized controlled trial that erythromycin (a macrolide antibiotic) may decrease the degree of pruritus, compared with placebo; it is not clear whether erythromycin improves rash.[11]
