Epidemiology

Chronic rhinosinusitis is common, although the true prevalence is difficult to measure. In Europe, chronic rhinosinusitis prevalence is estimated to range between 6.9% and 27.1%, depending on the country, whereas in the US, it is estimated to range between 2.1% and 13.8%.[2] Chronic rhinosinusitis occurs in all ages, sexes, and ethnic groups. It is more prevalent in women and in individuals living in the southern US.[3][4] Loss of productivity and missed work/school are major economic factors, as a significant decrease in quality of life is observed.[2] Quality-of-life scores are worse than those of other chronic diseases such as heart failure, asthma, and COPD.[5]
