Monitoring

Long-term monitoring of patients with acute bronchitis is rarely necessary. Symptoms resolve in most patients within a few weeks. For patients with postbronchitis syndrome, further evaluation to rule out other causes of chronic cough such as asthma, postnasal drip, esophageal reflux, ACE-inhibitor use, or other infections (e.g., tuberculosis) may be necessary.
