Criteria

Rome IV criteria[2]​​​​[3]

Recurrent abdominal pain, on average at least 1 day per week in the last 3 months and associated with two or more of the following criteria:

  • Related to defecation

  • Associated with a change in frequency of stool

  • Associated with a change in form (appearance) of stool.

Manning criteria[51]

Recurrent abdominal pain and at least two of the following:

  • Relief of pain with defecation

  • More frequent stools at the onset of pain

  • Looser stools at the onset of pain

  • Visible abdominal distension

  • Passage of mucus per rectum

  • A sensation of incomplete evacuation.
