Secondary prevention
Additional risk factors for keratoconjunctivitis sicca and exposure keratopathy to be avoided include:
Eye exposure to wind, dust, and trauma (e.g., contact or ball sports)
Eye patching: as placing a patch (like a piece of gauze) over an exposed cornea with impaired blink reflex will result in more trauma as the gauze will scratch the cornea.
