Patient discussions
As with any diarrheal illness, hydration is central to treatment. It is important to drink sufficient liquids and seek medical assistance if unable to stay hydrated with oral intake. All people with diarrhea, especially children, should wash their hands carefully and frequently with soap to reduce the risk of spreading infection. Basic infection control measures should be used as with any diarrheal patient (i.e., avoiding food handling or preparation, and washing hands carefully and frequently).
