Inpatient glycemic management

All patients admitted to the hospital with new-onset hyperglycemia should be assessed for the presence of diabetes with a subsequent fasting glucose or 2-hour postload glucose after 75 g oral glucose test. Measuring HbA1c may also be useful in differentiating diabetes from stress-induced hyperglycemia.
