Patient discussions
In children with resolved esophageal foreign bodies, no follow-up and no further workup is needed. For adults with history of esophageal foreign bodies, gastroenterology consultation is mandatory because a large proportion of these patients have underlying structural abnormalities (including eosinophilic esophagitis, rings, peptic strictures, and, in some cases, malignancies), and follow-up endoscopy with biopsies is indicated.
