Monitoring

Patients should be routinely followed to assess a change in tic severity that may warrant starting pharmacological treatment. The frequency of follow-up appointments is based on the severity of the tic disorder, treatment of the comorbid conditions, and the side effect profile of any medications. Patients should be monitored for the development of behavioural symptoms. These can develop as the patient ages and often have the greatest impact in their quality of life and academic achievement.
