Criteria

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): leptospirosis (Leptospira interrogans) case definition[60]

Clinical criteria include history of fever within the past 2 weeks and at least two of the following:

  • Myalgia

  • Headache

  • Jaundice

  • Conjunctival suffusion without purulent discharge

  • Rash (i.e., maculopapular or petechial).

Or at least one of the following:

  • Aseptic meningitis

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea)

  • Pulmonary complications (e.g., cough, breathlessness, haemoptysis)

  • Cardiac arrhythmias, ECG abnormalities

  • Renal insufficiency (e.g., anuria, oliguria)

  • Haemorrhage (e.g., intestinal, pulmonary, haematuria, haematemesis)

  • Jaundice with acute renal failure.
