After surgical resection with curative intent, patients should have plasma vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) levels checked periodically to assess for tumour recurrence or metastasis.​ Rising VIP levels or recurrence of symptoms warrants further imaging workup to identify the source of recurrent disease. Patients managed with medical treatment require regular follow up along with careful fluid and electrolyte management.
