Monitoring

The UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) advice is to follow up between 2 and 4 weeks of antidepressant initiation or dose change, unless there is suicidal ideation in which case 1 week. There is additional specific advice from the committee longer term e.g. at least yearly review for people on longer term antidepressants.[37] Once patients have achieved remission of symptoms they could be monitored monthly, or even less frequently depending on the individual circumstances. Self-rated scales for depression monitoring are recommended. These include the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (QIDS).[34][35][36]
