Drowning

Case history

A 22-year-old man is found floating face-down in a stagnant pond after binge drinking earlier that day. There were no witnesses to his drowning, and the duration of his submersion is unclear. When pulled from the pond he is not breathing. There are no signs of circulation. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation with ventilations and compressions is started and emergency medical services arrive to transfer him to the nearest hospital.
