Monitoring
Patients with pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) should have monthly sputum culture to monitor treatment efficacy.[39]
HIV-infected patients will be monitored with CD4 counts and HIV-1 RNA values as well as for clinical signs and symptoms of ongoing MAC infection. This will form the basis for eventual discontinuation of MAC treatment.
