Prognosis
Long-term sequelae of fasciotomy wounds include decreased sensibility, tethered tendons, recurrent ulcerations within the wound closure area, wound infections, and limited motor function of the involved muscles.[39] It should be emphasised, however, that the morbidity of an incompletely released compartment, delayed diagnosis, or unrecognised compartment syndrome is substantially worse.[18] Tissue ischaemia of only 1 hour is associated with reversible neuropraxia, whereas ischaemia of 4 hours can induce irreversible axonal nerve damage.[7][40] Ischaemia of up to 6 hours is associated with irreversible necrosis and more likely to produce functional impairment.[7][41]
