Screening

Screening for cerebral aneurysms is not recommended in people with only one first-degree relative affected by SAH.[38][43]​​​​ However, it should be considered if two or more first-degree relatives are affected.[38][43]​​​ In the UK, guidelines recommend referring people with two or more first-degree relatives affected by SAH and/or polycystic kidney disease to a neurovascular and/or neurogenetics specialist for information and advice regarding the risks and benefits of screening.[39]​​

It is unclear whether screening for new aneurysms is justified in people with a history of SAH.[19][123]
