Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies

Patients should be:

• Informed of the full extent of disease by knowing the idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM)-subtype, severity of muscle involvement, and the extramuscular manifestations.

• Empowered with adequate disease knowledge and treatment available to date.

• Monitored closely for IIM progress and complications from disease and treatment.

• Patients should be prescribed with and encouraged to attend physiotherapy and exercise which will help to improve muscle function and quality of life, as well as reduce bone loss.
