Monitoring
Children with complex nocturnal episodes and violent parasomnias should be followed up closely to make sure that the treatment administered is effective and well tolerated. Patients on antidepressant medication to treat parasomnias should be closely monitored for evidence of excessive sedation, behavioural disturbances, and suicidal ideation. In 2004, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a black box warning on suicidal risk associated with paediatric use of antidepressants.[64]
