Monitoring
Most patients with shigellosis recover completely. There is no need for continued monitoring once recovery has occurred.[24] However, monitoring may be indicated for patients with complications.
Malnutrition is often caused or exacerbated by more severe shigellosis and will need careful follow-up until the patient has recovered. Patients with haemolytic uraemic syndrome may have residual chronic renal impairment and hypertension. Reactive arthritis is likely to require rheumatological follow-up.
