Inpatient glycaemic management

All patients admitted to hospital with new-onset hyperglycaemia should be assessed for the presence of diabetes with a subsequent fasting glucose or 2-hour post-load glucose after 75 g oral glucose test. Measuring HbA1c may also be useful in differentiating diabetes from stress-induced hyperglycaemia.
