Patient discussions

On diagnosis of CTCL, patients should be encouraged to follow a good skin care regime, with use of soap substitutes and regular emollients to ameliorate symptoms from itching and dry scaly skin.

Regular skin self-examination for worsening skin disease, lymphadenopathy, and cutaneous infection will allow appropriate investigation and treatment at an early stage, and should therefore be encouraged.

No specific lifestyle factors, such as alteration in diet or activity, have demonstrated benefit. However, patients will often benefit from emotional support and counselling, provided by their clinical team and by disease associations, as they come to terms with the diagnosis and prognosis of CTCL, and to help them cope with the effects of treatment.
