We're delighted to share that BMJ Connections Clinical Genetics and Genomics Associate Editor, Professor Christine Harrison, has been recognised in this year's New Year's Honours list. Professor Harrison, researcher and trustee of Blood Cancer UK, has been awarded an OBE for services to children with a form of blood cancer.
Christine Harrison is a Professor of Childhood Cancer Cytogenetics at Newcastle University, UK. She is a world-leading cancer cytogeneticist interested in childhood acute lymphoblastic and myeloid leukaemia genetics within clinical treatment trials. Over the last decades, she has discovered the link between genetics and prognosis, greatly improving survival in these patients.
BMJ Connections Clinical Genetics and Genomics invites submissions to a topic collection on Advances in Non-Invasive Prenatal Genetic Testing.
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) screens fetal DNA from maternal blood for chromosomal abnormalities with high accuracy and now detects large CNVs and explores monogenic disorders. Advances include cell-based technologies, but challenges remain, necessitating further research to enhance diagnostic potential.
This Topic Collection aims to highlight a comprehensive understanding, highlighting achievements and outlining future expectations in NIPT.
