Voltage Controlled Oscillators(VCOs) and Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs)

April 9 @ 5:30 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Join us for an insightful session exploring Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) and Phase Locked Loops (PLLs), critical components in communications, instrumentation, and control systems.
Presenters: Dr. Kara Beauchamp & Prof. Phil Thompson
We'll begin with a concise overview of VCO and PLL operational theory, followed by a live demonstration of a transmitter/receiver system. Witness firsthand how a VCO functions as an FM modulator and a PLL as a demodulator. We'll utilize a spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope to thoroughly characterize the modulated signal, examining it in both the frequency and time domains.
Throughout the demo, Dr. Beauchamp and Prof. Thompson will share valuable tips and highlight common pitfalls encountered during lab measurements, helping you avoid potential "gotchas."
Following the demonstration, we'll open the floor for a Q&A session. Bring your lab measurement questions! We're here to help you navigate any challenges you may be facing.
