Last spring, at its inaugural conference held in Austin, Texas, IEEE Life Members hosted a panel discussion about how Life Members could share their deep knowledge to influence the development of technology to benefit humanity.
The topic of age tech was identified as a top opportunity. The rapid emergence of technology solutions designed to improve the quality of life, independence and well-being of older adults has revealed the need for the development of standards. Products related to health monitoring, cognitive support, smart home technologies, mobility tools and social connectivity, for example, could benefit immensely from the adoption of standards to dramatically enhance the design, usability and sustained adoption of age tech.
Out of that discussion, the IEEE Standards Association Age Tech Industry Connections Activity was born. On January 23, 2025, the group hosted an informational webinar to educate the IEEE community about age tech, the challenges faced in bringing these solutions to market, and how IEEE is working to enable digital innovation and solve global market challenges through standardization and opportunities for involvement in various work groups.
