Topic:

Towards User-centric Wireless Systems: Optimizing Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for Customization & Sustainability

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RISs) are emerging as a key technology for future wireless networks due to their passive metaelements, compact design, and cost-effectiveness. This study optimizes RIS-assisted wireless communication by addressing four key challenges: (1) analyzing the impact of multiple RISs on achievable rates in indoor networks, (2) optimizing RIS deployment in outdoor scenarios to maximize coverage under cost constraints, (3) minimizing overall power consumption by optimizing RIS-device associations, and (4) enhancing QoE in VR THz communication by jointly optimizing beamforming, AP transmission power, and rendering capacity. The proposed solutions employ a two-stage optimization strategy, balancing bit error rate (BER), data rate, and VR rendering efficiency.
