Prof. Paul M. Cunningham (Chair of the IEEE UK and Ireland Section) and Dr. Erivelton Nepomuceno (Senior Member of IEEE and the elected Chair-Elect of the IEEE Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems) will present an Introduction to the IEEE UK and Ireland Section and the CASS Goes to University event at 12 PM (GMT (UTC+0)) on 10 March 2025. Prof. Paul M Cunningham

Biography:

Prof. Paul M Cunningham is Director IEEE Division VI and Director of IST-Africa Institute, a not-for-profit strategic collaboration with African ministries responsible for Innovation, Science and Technology. Founded in 2002, IST-Africa focuses on strengthening ministry policy and strategy capacity, and helped African universities secure over €200 million in research funding over the last ten years. Supported by European Commission and African Union Commission, IST-Africa is a member of UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network and recognized by ITU as a WSIS 2018 Prizes Champion. As President  & CEO, IIMC, Paul leads teams providing technological, strategic, and policy expertise to government organizations and research programs.

Affiliated with IUM (Namibia), and Wrexham Glyndŵr University (Wales), Coordinator of mHealth4Afrika, Paul has an interdisciplinary background (Trinity College Dublin; Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music; UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School; DSV, Stockholm University) and was recognized by Enterprise Ireland as an Irish Champion of EU Research (2015, 2017).

Dr. Erivelton Nepomuceno

Biography:

Dr Erivelton Nepomuceno received his BEng and PhD in Electrical Engineering from UFSJ (2001) and UFMG (2005) respectively. He is an Associate Professor at the Hamilton Institute and Centre for Ocean Energy Research and the Department of Electronic Engineering at Maynooth University. He was a visiting Research Fellow at the Technological Institute of Aeronautics in Brazil (2005), Imperial College London (2013/14), Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University in Russia (2019), and City, University of London (2020/21). Erivelton is a Senior Member of IEEE and the elected Chair-Elect of the IEEE Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems. He was founder-coordinator of the Technical Committee on System Identification and Data Science for the Brazilian Association of Automatic Control. He served as Deputy EiC of IEEE Latin America Transactions (2019-2023) and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs (2021-2023) and Mathematical Problems in Engineering (2020-2023). He serves as an Associate Editor for 1) Journal of Control, Automation and Electrical Systems; 2) International Journal of Network Dynamics and 3) Nonlinear Science. His research interests include Computer Arithmetic, Chaotic Cryptography, Green Computing, Ocean Energy, Sustainable Circuits and Systems, and System Identification.
