PRESENTATION: India will celebrate 50 years after launching its first satellite, ARYBHATA. In the last 50 years, the progress in the aerospace arena, be design and fabrication of satellites, launchers, rockets, missiles or fighter aircraft along with applications in the domain of use of space technology for societal, security and defence has been exponential. Till now, India has launched >537 satellites and 100 satellite launchers. Satellites have been launched for various countries, including the USA, among other countries.

The talk is about the journey of the last 50 years and the exponential progress made by India/ISRO and DRDO in the Aerospace Domain.

Biography:

Dr Surendra Pal, an alumnus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani and IISC Bangalore (India), is a researcher and an academician of international repute. He has over 55 years of experience in the field of Antennas, Microwaves, Space Communication, and Satellite Navigation, and has published /presented more than 250 technical papers and a two-volume book, 'Perspectives in Communication'

He is a former Vice-Chancellor of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune, DRDO Dr.DS Kothari Chair, Distinguished Scientist, Prof. Satish Dhawan Professor, Senior Adviser, Satellite Navigation (lSRO), Distinguished Scientist and Program  Director(SATNAV) of ISRO Satellite Centre (Presently URSC) Bangalore

Dr. Pal was the founder and Program Director of the Indian Satellite Navigation Programme GAGAN and NavIC.  GAGAN is certified and handed over to the Air Port Authority of India. For NAViC, Indian defence and security agencies will be the main users. It is an independent constellation that can have interoperability with GPS and GLONASS.  

Dr Paul is a past AES Distinguished Speaker and Distinguished Fellow of many international professional societies.
