“Diamond defects shine a bright light for quantum technology”

 

Abstract:

Diamonds are known as beautiful and ever-lasting jewels, praised for their hardness. Inclusion of defects in their crystal matrix leads to powerful quantum technologies. Spins associated with such color center defects can be used as qubits, single photon emitters, and quantum sensors. In this talk, I will focus on this quantum platform to illustrate some of the potential applications of emerging quantum technologies, and the challenges and opportunities that we still face. From quantum simulation to quantum sensing and computation, I will show how a clever combination of materials improvement, quantum control, and understanding of quantum properties can bring about practical quantum advantage.
