Sarah Phillips
Chief Medical Officer, Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust; England
Sarah Phillips has been a General Practitioner in England since 2011. Noticing problems in processes led to first attempts at improvement at the front line, in collaboration with reception staff. In 2014 she moved to a larger partnership and continued to work with colleagues to address the problems seen day to day, whilst undertaking leadership roles in the Clinical Commissioning Group, becoming Clinical Chair in 2016. This role involved system and strategic leadership. In 2017 Sarah became Chief Medical Officer at a large community trust – Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) where she developed a special interest in Quality Improvement science and culture. Between 2019 and 2022 Sarah undertook a Masters in Healthcare Leadership and Quality Improvement as a Generation Q Fellow, sponsored by the Health Foundation. As Executive Lead for continuous improvement Sarah has led the development of a structured improvement approach, largely using shared NHS resources. She believes firmly in the power of staff and patients to improve outcomes using Quality Improvement methods. She is also the clinical lead for the Kent and Medway Care Record and leads system and trust improvement work in areas such as frailty and dementia. More recently she has joined NHS England in a part time secondment as Clinical Lead for Population Health Management.
