Improving hospital wide flow using IHI’s Real Time Demand and Capacity Management (RTDC)
Healthcare systems across the Western world are under increasing pressure. Demand for care continues to rise as people live longer and often require more complex care, while staff shortages and the need to contain costs force hospitals to work more efficiently than ever before. These challenges make it essential to find smart, reliable ways to optimize patient flow across the hospital — while also improving the workplace wellbeing of healthcare professionals.
This session will explore what Real Time Demand and Capacity Management (RTDC) is, how it works, and what makes it so effective. We will highlight the impressive results achieved in two Dutch hospitals and discuss the key conditions for successful implementation. Participants will gain insight into how RTDC can improve hospital-wide patient flow and contribute to the workplace wellbeing of healthcare professionals — and what it takes to make such a system work in practice.
