Does improving quality in health and care cost money or save money?

How should we define ‘value’ in health and care – and how can we demonstrate the value of quality improvement?

What is Value-Based Health Care and how does it enhance quality improvement?

Join us for an interactive session that presents new research on these questions from the UK, with a case study from the Netherlands focused on Value-Based Health Care. We will explore the seven domains of Value-Based Health Care with real-life examples from Dutch hospitals. We will set this in the context of new research, led by the English National Health Service and Warwick Business School, into how we best demonstrate the value of quality improvement.

This session is designed for healthcare providers, policy makers, researchers and quality improvers who want to sharpen their approach to demonstrating the value of their work to improve patient outcomes.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between the social case, the business case, and the economic case for investing in quality improvement as a means of achieving value in health and care

  • Appreciate the issues in creating a narrative around the financial value of QI and how it fits with other aims for QI

  • Understand how Value-Based Health Care can be used as a guiding principle in quality improvement
