  • Correlation coefficients (R) were computed using Pearson’s test after log transformation of marker concentrations (ECP, EDN and CRP) or human serum pool ratio (TNF-alpha, IL-8, IL-5, IL-7, IL-10, IL-1Ra, IL-13, leptin). P values were adjusted on age, sex, smoking status and BMI and took into account familial dependence. ‘n’ indicates the number of samples available for each biomarker. Bold indicates statistically significant differences after Bonferroni’s multiple test correction (threshold p value=0.0025)

  • ECP, eosinophil cationic protein; EDN, eosinophil-derived neurotoxin; hs-CRP, high-sensitivity C reactive protein; IL, interleukin; TNF, tumour necrosis factor.
