Royal Navy (RN) General Practice Specialty Trainees (GPSTs) conduct most of their training in the National Health Service (NHS), qualifying as general practitioners (GPs) under the national training scheme, governed by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGPs) curriculum. This pathway does not prepare them for the extended roles of Military General Practice1, especially operational requirements.2 The RCGP has acknowledged the additional learning needs of NHS GPs whilst establishing in practice, leading to the First5 scheme, offering support during the first 5 years after qualification.3 During this period a key deficit for both NHS and Defence GPs (DGPs) is leadership and management skills.4 5 …
